Dr. Laura A. Dougherty chose her career path at age seven when she found herself at the orthodontist, speech therapist or general dentist too many times to count growing up. She finds that the most rewarding aspects of her career are being able to help ensure patients have a comfortable dental experience and seeing her patients gain confidence when they see their newly restored, beautiful smiles as her dental providers gave her growing up.
Born and raised in Delaware's Sussex County, “Dr. D” earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Delaware in 2001 before going on to study dentistry at the University of Maryland's Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, achieving her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree in 2006. After completing her General Practice Residency with the Christiana Care Dental Residency Program, she went into private practice for 11 years prior to opening Dougherty Dental Solutions in 2018.
“Dr. D”, is a proud and active member of the Delaware Academy of General Dentistry, as well as the American Dental Association, and the Delaware State Dental Society. She resides in Delaware with her husband and two children. When she is not practicing dentistry she enjoys traveling and going to the beach.
Chris is one of our compassionate and highly talented hygienists who has been a valuable member of our team for 30 years! She began her career as a dental assistant, before continuing her education, and earning her Dental Hygiene degree seven years later.
Chris truly loves her work in dentistry and has a heart for every patient that she treats. She especially feels accomplished when she can make people with previous negative memories of dentistry comfortable and happy to be receiving care.
Chris is married and has two beautiful boys. She enjoys spending time with her family, watching her boys play soccer and loves to go to the beach.
Pam grew up in Freehold, NJ before moving to Delaware in 1985. She has been a valuable member of our dental team for almost 30 years and loves to make her patients feel comfortable and confident in the care she is providing during dental treatment. Pam has been married to her husband Frank, a motorcycle and guitar enthusiast for 16 years. Between the two of them, they have five great children, two wonderful son-in-laws, two cute grandsons, and a dog named Doug. When she is not at work, Pam enjoys learning piano, working out, and riding bikes with her husband.
Sheryl may look familiar to some of our long time patients- she was Dr. Loss's dental assistant the last two years before he retired! Sheryl has been dental assisting for 30 years. She loves chair-side assisting and getting to know her patients. She takes pride in making sure her patients receive the most comfortable care they can have.
Sheryl is married and is kept busy with her 3 teenage kids and 2 rescue dogs. She enjoys spending time with her family and cheering on the sidelines of her kids sports games.
Lucy has over 22 years of experience in the dental field and she has loved every second of it. She has a true passion for all things dental. She enjoys meeting and interacting with her patients as she watches their smiles transform throughout their treatment. Her goal with every patient is to help them feel more comfortable with the thought of treatment, for them to feel like a part of the Dougherty Dental Solutions family and for the patients to be fully educated regarding their treatment.
Lucy currently lives in Wilmington with her family and when she is not working she enjoys spending time with her three daughters and traveling.
Nicole is our insurance coordinator at Dougherty Dental Solutions. She began her career in the dental field as an assistant before finding her way to the administrative side in the office. She truly loves helping patients to make the best decision for them about their treatment, without causing financial stress. With her experience in the field, she knows that insurance (with all of its limitations) can be tricky to understand and is always striving to make it easier for the patients.
Nicole is a Delaware native and loves it! Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her family (especially her new baby boy!), and spending weekends in Ocean City, MD during the summer.
Cooper is a hypoallergenic miniature Shepadoodle who has recently accepted a position at Dougherty Dental Solutions as our resident therapy dog! He first met his mom (Dr. Dougherty) in the summer of 2021 and joined the DDS family soon after. Cooper is here to comfort our patients and provide a soothing in-chair presence to help calm nerves.
When Cooper is off-duty he likes to play with other pups at doggy daycare, go for long walks, and loves to chew toys while laying in the grass! He also enjoys going for trips in the car and playing with his big brother RJ.
If you have allergies or feel uncomfortable around dogs, rest assured knowing that Cooper hangs out in the non-patient area of the office and will come visit you while you're seen by the dentist upon request!
